The 12th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) National Swimming Championship was officially declared open on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State.
It was a colourful opening ceremony at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Swimming arena as it was declared open by top officials of the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Aquatics Federation.
Speaking at the event, the Navy’s Director of Sports, Emmanuel Ogalla who represented the Chief of Naval Staff said the intent of the championship is to discover talents.
“Swimming is synonymous with the Navy. It’s no accident that we are involved. From discovering talent to keeping youth engaged and off the streets, this championship is building the nation through sports.
Medals are already won in the age grade and second categories of the Swimming championship with the host state, Delta currently dominating the podium finishes. There have been medals too for swimming teams and the Nigerian Army.
