Nigeria’s U20 women team, known as Falconets, will take on their Rwandan counterparts in a 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match in Kigali on Sunday, September 21. The match is the first leg of a second round fixture as the race to the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Poland heats up across Africa.
The match will take place at the Kigali Pele Stadium, which used to be known as the Nyamirambo Regional Stadium, and which has an artificial turf. It is a 22000-capacity facility.
In 2021, the Confederation of African Football ruled that the venue was unfit to host international matches. The Government of Rwanda renovated the stadium, and it was re-opened in March 2023, and renamed Kigali Pele Stadium, after the Brazilian football icon, by President Paul Kagame. It was re-opened in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In 2012, the venue hosted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between the Super Eagles and the Amavubi. The game ended 0-0.
The clash between the Falconets and their Rwandan counterparts will kick off at 3pm Rwanda time (2pm Nigeria time).
