The delegation of Rwanda’s senior men team, known as Amavubi, will land in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, September 3 for their Matchday 7 clash of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series (Africa) with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The encounter, which is of immense importance to both teams, has been scheduled to commence at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo 5pm on Saturday, September 6.
Victory for either side will bolster their campaign for the single ticket from Group C in the qualifying race, particularly with group leaders South Africa set to lose three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player (Teboho Mokoena) in their Matchday 5 encounter against Lesotho. Mokoena had received two yellow cards in the campaign before the match and was ruled out.
The Amavubi can approach the match with confidence, bolstered by memories of a 2-1 defeat of the Super Eagles in an AFCON 2025 final-day qualifying match, which did not amount to much, as the Eagles had already qualified before the encounter, and Rwanda eventually failed to make it following Benin Republic’s draw in Libya that handed the Cheetahs the second ticket from the pool.
On their part, the Super Eagles can derive mental strength from a 2-0 over the Amavubi right in Kigali, in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match (Matchday 5) game five months ago.
