Nigerian athlete Grace Nwokocha has completed her three-year suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and is now free to return to the tracks.

Nwokocha was suspended in 2022 for testing positive for a banned substance, Ostarine and Dihydroxy LGD40033 during the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2020 and she was banned from the sport due to Commonwealth Games Federation Anti-Doping Rules.

Grace Nwokocha was Nigeria’s anchor leg in the women’s 4×100m relay race which had Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Tobi Amusan as team members and they finished with a record time of 42.10s.

Nwokocha was suspended by the AIU provisionally on August 21, 2022 but her ban was backdated to 3rd August 2022.

The Birmingham race was historic for the country as Nwokocha powered across the line to bring home the gold medal in a race which had some of the fastest ladies in the world, including Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Nigeria were eventually stripped off the gold medal after Nwokocha was found guilty of doping violations. As a result of the disqualification, England, who finished second, was promoted to gold, Jamaica to silver, and Australia to bronze.
