FIFA U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles set for 12-day final camping in Chile

Two-time runners-up Nigeria will set up a 12-day final training camp in Chile ahead of their participation in the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup finals taking place in that country, 27th September – 19th October.

The seven-time African champions have been undergoing training sessions in Abuja for some weeks now, and will depart the shores of Nigeria on Sunday, 14th September for the South American nation.

Nigeria, Norway, Saudi Arabia and Colombia are drawn in Group F of the 24-nation tournament, which will be played across the cities of Santiago, Rancagua, Valparaiso and Talca.

The Flying Eagles, finalists in 1989 and 2005, will play all their group phase matches in Talca, taking on Norway on 29th September, Saudi Arabia on 2nd October and Colombia on 5th October.

Nigeria came within a nodding distance of the semi finals at the last championship hosted by Argentina, losing their quarter-final match to South Korea by a lone goal after extra time in Santiago del Estero.

The Flying Eagles lost to Portugal in the 1989 Final in Riyadh, and also lost the Final to Argentina in The Netherlands in 2005. They were bronze medallists in then USSR in 1985.

Group A is headed by hosts Chile, and also has New Zealand, Japan and Egypt, while Group B entertains South Korea, Ukraine, Paraguay and Panama.

Brazil heads Group C that also has Mexico, Morocco and Spain, while Group D includes Italy, Australia, Cuba and multiple winners Argentina. USA, New Caledonia, France and South Africa make up Group E.
