The 2025/2026 season of the Nigeria National League will kickoff on November 8, 2025.
This was announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM ) of the league held on Tuesday in Kaduna State. The season will kickoff with a star match between Lobi Stars and City FC of Abuja.
At the AGM, the club owners unanimously abolished the Super 8 mode of qualification where two best teams from each of the four conferences converge for playoffs to determine the four teams which will qualify for the NPFL.
In the new format, only the highest placed team from each of the conferences will gain promotion to the Premier League.
The Conferences are: South A and South B, North A and North B. Two of the relegated sides from last season, Sunshine Stars and Heartland find themselves in Conference A and this means that one of them will not make it back to the NPFL for the 2026/2027 season.
