Onome Ebi, former Super Falcons captain, has announced her retirement from football.
Ebi made the announcement on Wednesday. She started professional football in 2001 and has been in the sport for 24 years. Though she bids goodbye to active football, Ebi said she will still be a voice for players.
“Today, I officially retire from professional football. The journey has been filled with challenges, victories, and lessons that shaped me into who I am today,” Ebi said.
“Though I hang up my boots, my purpose in the game continues — to give back, to guide, and to be a voice for players.”
Ebi made history by being the only African player to appear in six FIFA World Cup tournaments — 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, 2023.
She won the WAFCON four times and made 109 appearances for the Super Falcons and scored 4 goals. She made her Super Falcons debut in 2003 and her appearance for the Falcons at the 2023 World Cup was a milestone—20 years of active football for the national team
