Paris Saint-Germain, PSG began their UEFA Champions League title defence in flying colours while a Harry Kane double helped Bayern Munich to secure an opening day win over Chelsea in a thrilling start to the 2025/26 campaign on Wednesday.

At the Parc des Princes, the champions brushed aside Atalanta 4-0 with a commanding performance.

Marquinhos gave PSG the perfect start inside three minutes before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead with a fierce strike as Bradley Barcola saw his penalty saved.

Nuno Mendes extended the advantage early in the second half, and substitute Gonçalo Ramos rounded off the scoring late on.

Kvaratskhelia was named Player of the Match after an outstanding display.

In Munich, Harry Kane stole the headlines with a decisive double as Bayern overcame Chelsea 3-1.

The hosts took the lead when Trevoh Chalobah inadvertently turned into his own net.

Bayern Munich doubled their lead with Kane converting from the penalty spot following a foul by Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea briefly threatened when Cole Palmer pulled one back with a sharp finish.

However, the Bavarians took the game off Chelsea’s reach as Kane capitalised on defensive lapses to secure Bayern’s win.

Liverpool, meanwhile, edged a five-goal thriller against Atlético de Madrid at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah struck twice early, first via a deflected free-kick and then with a superb solo effort.

Marcos Llorente responded with a brace for Atleti, but Virgil van Dijk rose highest in stoppage time to head home the winner, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Elsewhere, Inter made a confident start with Marcus Thuram scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Ajax in Amsterdam.

Debutants Bodø/Glimt produced a late comeback to draw 2-2 with Slavia Praha.
