Rivers Angels have successfully defended the President Federation Cup title after a comeback victory over Nasarawa Amazons.
Tosan Blankson’s girls conceded early in the game when Olushola Shobowale out the Mafia based side ahead in the 7th minute and doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Danjuma’s girls went into the tunnel 45 minutes away from a win but the champions had other plans.
Taiwo Ajibade connected a freekick by Ifeoma Paulinus and reduced the deficit in the 57th minute before midfielder, Taiwo Afolabi drew Rivers Angels level five minutes later, stretching the game to penalties and Rivers Angels won 4-2 with goalkeeper, Anderline dispatching the winning spotkick.
The Port Harcourt based side beat Naija Ratels 1-0 in the 2024 final on same ground—the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to lift their 9th title.
This is Tosan Blankson’s first major trophy with Rivers Angels after joining the side last season. Rivers Angels’ victory makes it their 10th in the President Federation Cup.
