The Flamingos have qualified to the round of 16 of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after a crushing win over Samoa.

The Flamingos spanked Samoa 4-0 in Salle to redeem themselves after losing 4-1 to Canada in their opening fixture of Group D and falling 1-0 to France in the second game.

Nigeria needed just a win to progress as one of the best third placed teams and Bankole Olowookere’s girls got the job done. Queen Joseph opened the floodgates in the 13th minute before Shakirat Moshood scored Nigeria’s second from the spot in the 28th minute after a penalty review request by Bankole.

Queen Joseph got her second of the evening in the 34th minute. Shakirat Moshood missed a penalty immediately after the break after the rampaging Terlumun was brought down in the box. Azeezat Oduntan made it four in the 67th minute with a brilliant curler past the impressive Samoan goalkeeper who had denied the Flamingos many times in the game.

The victory placed the Bankole Olowookere-led side as the number one ranked team among third placed teams, thereby giving them passage to the next round
