The Super Falcons are through to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in Abeokuta.

The Falcons had beaten the Amazons 2-0 in Lome and came into the fixture with an advantage. Justine Madugu made just one change from the team which started the first leg by replacing Chinwendu Ihezuo with Asisat Oshoala.

Al-Ittihad defender, Ashleigh Plumptre gave Nigeria the lead in the 12th minute when she rose highest in the box to nod Esther Okoronkwo’s corner kick into the net.

The ten-time African champions went into the break with the 1-0 lead. Benin Republic came back stronger in the second half and equalized through Yasminath Djibril.

The team’s efforts to add more goals were not fruitful as the game ended 1-1. The Falcons will defend their crown in next year’s WAFCON in Morocco, which also serves as qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
