Iga Swiatek defeats Anisimova to win first Wimbledon title

Iga Swiatek has defeated Amanda Asininova to win her first Wimbledon women’s singles title.

In a one looped-sided affair at the center court in London on Saturday, the Polish tennis star finished off the job is just 58 minutes of two straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the trophy.

This is the first time a player would win a double bagel in the Wimbledon’s final since 1911.

It was a clean sweep for Swiatek who looked more determined and overwhelmed Anisimova, making her to make 28 unforced errors.

Playing on grass seemed to be a challenge for Swiatek who is known for winning on clay but she got into her strides quickly and swept Anisimova aside.

The four-time Roland Garros champion needed to add the Wimbledon title to her collections and came out strong.

Her 6-0 in the first set was the first in a women’s Wimbledon final since Martina Navratilova in 1983.

Anisimova was expected to make a comeback in the second set but could not put her serves right committed more unforced errors. Swiatek took advantage of that and stormed to another 6-0 in the second set.

The victory over the American saw Swiatek claim her sixth Grand Slam title of her career.

Her feat makes her the first Polish player in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title since 1968.

The only other Polish woman to make a Wimbledon singles final in the Open Era is Agnieszka Radwanska in 2012.
