The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially opened their training camp in Cairo, Egypt, marking the start of preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

The Super Eagles technical crew, led by head coach Éric Sékou Chelle, alongside members of the backroom staff, formed the advance party and arrived earlier to set the tone for the camping programme.

Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was the first player to report to camp, arriving early on Sunday, December 14, signalling the commencement of intensive preparations ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Uzoho touched down in Cairo in the early hours and promptly checked into the team’s base at the Renaissance Hotel, where the coaching crew and backroom staff are already settled.

More players are expected to arrive later on Sunday, with a full squad anticipated by Monday.

As part of their build-up, Nigeria will face Egypt in a tune-up friendly on Tuesday as preparations intensify for the continental showpiece, which is scheduled to kick off on November 21, 2025, in Morocco.

Coach Chelle has invited a total of 28 players to camp as the three-time African champions begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title.

The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda. Nigeria will open their campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23.
