Ahmedabad officially confirmed as host city for 2030 Commonwealth Games

Ahmedabad, a city in India, has been confirmed as the host for the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030. 

The decision was ratified on Wednesday, having been proposed by the governing body of the Commonwealth Sport’s evaluation committee last month instead of Abuja, Nigeria.

 

15-17 sports will feature at the games, higher than the 10 which is scheduled for the summer of 2026 in Glasgow.

 

Athletics, swimming, table tennis, bowls, weightlifting, powerlifting, netball, netball and artistic gymnastics will be featured at the games.

 

Archery, badminton, 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, T20 cricket, cycling, diving, hockey, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby sevens, shooting, squash, triathlon and wrestling are still being considered.

 

Amdavad is officially known as Ahmedabad and is located in the state of Gujarat. The city is looking at keeping its infrastructure intact for the bidding of the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics.

 

Among which is the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium in the world, which has a capacity of 132,000. It hosted the Cricket World Cup final in 2023 and will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games.
