Al Hilal striker Sunday Adetunji has officially switched his international allegiance from Nigeria to Sudan, the Sudanese club confirmed on Tuesday.
The announcement was made via a post on Al Hilal’s verified social media page, confirming the player’s eligibility to represent Sudan in future competitions.
Following FIFA’s approval, Adetunji is now available for selection in Sudan’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Adetunji joins his Al Hilal teammate, Steve Ebuela, who has also completed a nationality switch from DR Congo to Sudan.
Adetunji began his professional career with El-Kanemi Warriors in 2015 before moving through several Nigerian clubs including Abia Warriors, Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Plateau United, and Rivers United.
In 2019, he moved abroad to Czech club FK Příbram, where he played both for the reserve and senior teams before returning to Nigeria a year later.
His breakthrough came in 2021 after joining Macedonian side KF Shkupi, where he scored 20 goals to finish as league top scorer and helped them win their first title.
Adetunji later joined Serbian club FK Čukarički in September 2023 as a free agent and made an immediate impact, scoring a spectacular goal on his debut.
The former Nigeria international made his first appearance for the Super Eagles in July 2021, featuring as a substitute in a friendly against Mexico.
Just like Sunday Adetunji, several African players are now turning to Sudan for international opportunities after being overlooked by their home nations.
