Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the US Open crown on Sunday with a commanding four-set victory over rival Jannik Sinner, sealing a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 triumph in New York.
The men’s final began 30 minutes late due to heightened security measures following the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump at Flushing Meadows.
Fans faced long queues outside Arthur Ashe Stadium as airport-style scanners and additional checks were implemented overnight.
Organisers confirmed the delayed start was to allow spectators time to get to their seats.
Once underway, the highly anticipated contest added another chapter to the growing Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry.
While the level did not quite match their epic French Open and Wimbledon finals earlier this year, Alcaraz’s superior serving proved decisive.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who first lifted the US Open trophy in 2022, now owns six Grand Slam titles, becoming the second youngest man after Bjorn Borg to achieve the feat.
Alcatraz victory also ensured an even split of majors with Sinner in 2025, with Alcaraz winning the French and U.S. Opens while Sinner captured the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
“I see you more than my family. It’s great to share the court with you,” Alcaraz joked after facing Sinner in their fifth final of the season.
Sinner, who struggled to find his top level, saved two championship points before Alcaraz converted his third with a thunderous 131mph ace—an emphatic finish to a fortnight marked by his dominant serve.
The result also sees Alcaraz reclaim the world No.1 ranking from the Italian, ending Sinner’s 65-week reign at the summit.
As Trump’s presence drew mixed reactions from the crowd, Alcaraz’s performance ensured the spotlight remained firmly on the future of men’s tennis.
