Aliyu urges upgrade of swimming facilities to global standards

The Nigeria Aquatic Federation (NAF) President, Chief Mrs. Chinoye Aliyu, has called on the government, and other stakeholders to support the upgrade of swimming facilities across Nigeria.

She noted that improving swimming facilities to international standards is essential for Nigeria to match global levels in aquatic sports.

The NAF President made this call after witnessing the massive participation recorded during the swimming events at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

She attributed the turnout of athletes to the federation’s strategic programs and the consistent efforts of various state governments to promote aquatic sports within their regions.

Lagos State emerged dominant in the swimming category, securing 19 gold medals.

Chief Mrs. Aliyu praised Lagos for maximizing available resources, describing its performance in swimming as proof of how effective investments in sports facilities and training can yield outstanding results at the national level.

The NAF President commended the event organizers for conducting the competition seamlessly and professionally, in compliance with Olympic-standard parameters.

She highlighted the federation’s commitment to raising coaching standards through biennial coaching courses.

Aliyu said it will ensuring Nigerian coaches remain at their best while preparing future athletes for international success.

By upgrading swimming facilities and investing in coaching standards, Nigeria can achieve greater success in aquatic sports.

This can strengthen its representation globally.
