Arsenal mulls Emirates Stadium expansion

Arsenal are reportedly exploring plans to expand the capacity of the Emirates Stadium, nearly 20 years after moving from their historic Highbury ground.

According to club sources, preliminary internal discussions have been held to assess possible expansion options, though no definitive plan has yet been agreed.

Among the proposals considered is a temporary relocation to Wembley Stadium should major construction work take place.

The North London club previously played home matches at the old Wembley during the 1998–99 and 1999–2000 Champions League campaigns.

Tottenham Hotspur followed a similar path, staging European fixtures and later full seasons at the current Wembley between 2016 and 2019 while their new ground was being built.

As the Emirates approaches its 20th anniversary in 2026, Arsenal are believed to be reviewing potential adjustments to seating configurations that could add several thousand seats.

The move would help the Gunners remain competitive with other Premier League giants boasting larger venues.

With a current capacity of 60,704, Emirates Stadium ranks fifth among English club grounds. Manchester United’s Old Trafford leads the list with 74,879 seats, followed by Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (62,850), West Ham’s London Stadium (62,500), and Liverpool’s Anfield (61,276).

The discussions reflect Arsenal’s ambition to enhance matchday revenue and accommodate their growing global fanbase while maintaining the Emirates’ reputation as one of the Premier League’s premier venues.
