ATP Finals: Auger-Aliassime beats Zverev as Alcaraz, Sinner confirm semi-Final foes

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime booked his place in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals for the first time after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a decisive final group match on Friday.

The eighth seed held firm in key moments to clinch a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory, securing second place in the Bjorn Borg Group and setting up a blockbuster semi-final meeting with world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

In a tense contest marked by unforced errors from both players, Zverev will rue his failure to convert any of his four break-point opportunities.

Auger-Aliassime capitalised when it mattered most, breaking late in the first set and keeping his composure during a tight second-set tie-break to seal the win.

The Canadian continues his strong indoor season, now with 19 victories from 24 matches on hard courts in 2025.

Group winner Jannik Sinner advanced earlier in the day after a straight-sets win over already-eliminated Ben Shelton.

The defending champion beat the American 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to maintain a perfect record in Turin and extend his winning streak to 13 matches.

Sinner has yet to drop a set or a service game during this year’s event and will face seventh seed Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals.

Despite holding a dominant 12-0 head-to-head record against the Australian, Sinner insisted he will not underestimate his opponent, praising De Minaur’s strong comeback performance in his victory over Taylor Fritz.

In the doubles category, Britain celebrated a historic achievement as five players reached the semi-finals—the nation’s largest contingent at this stage since 1992.

Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara earned a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, while fellow Britons Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski also maintained a flawless record with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

They are set to face top-ranked pair Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, ensuring an all-British showdown in the last four.
