Breaking: Liverpool’s Diogo Jota dies in car accident

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has passed on in a car accident alongside his brother, Andre Silva on Thursday morning in Spain.

He was traveling with brother Andre when their vehicle went off the road, according to Marca. His death has also been confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

Jota and Silva, both footballers for Liverpool and FC Penafiel died on the spot in the Zamora region. This tragic event comes only two weeks after the Liverpool forward got married to his long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso with whom he has three children.

The authorities in the region confirmed the incident.

“The 1-1-2 Castilla y Leon operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire,” an official statement read on Thursday morning.

“From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene,” the statement added.

Diogo Jota made 182 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals providing 26 assists and was part of Arne Slot’s Premier League title-winning team last season.
