Brown Ideye, former Super Eagles striker has announced his retirement from professional football.

Ideye made the announcement on Tuesday in a post on his social media page. The former West Bromwich Albion player said he had mixed feelings as he retires from the game he loved so much.

 

“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football,” he wrote.

 

“I will first like to thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. I thank my family and friends for their unwavering love, support, and understanding till this day.

 

“This game made me and gave me everything — incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and so many unforgettable memories,” he said.

 

Brown Ideye was part of the Super Eagles team which won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013. He also represented the country at the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup in Canada and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

 

Ideye returned from playing abroad to end his career in Nigeria where he played for Enyimba FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the 2024/2025 season.

 

He is now the Director of Player Pathways and Partnerships at Atlantic Business Football Club.
