Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens maintained a hundred percent record in the WAFU ZONE B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers with a 4-1 thrashing of Sam Nelly.
The NWFL Premiership champions came into the final game with six points and needed a win or draw to confirm their place in the next round, with ASKO playing simultaneously with Police Ladies in the other group game.
Janet Akekoromowei opened scoring for Bayelsa Queens with a calm finish after Sam Nelly goalkeeper, Lilian Anams parried the ball away but her defenders failed to react quickly, giving Janet the chance to slot home.
Shakirat Moshood scored the second goal for the Prosperity Girls in the 35th minute to bring her goals tally in the tournament to three. Sam Nelly reduced the deficit in the 44th minute when Favour Kalu saw Monle Omini off her six yard box and lobbed it over the goalkeeper from outside the box.
Bayelsa Queens returned with vigour in the second half and pushed for more goals. Alaba Olabiyi scored the third goal in the 55th minute when she poked home Shakirat’s cross which came off the woodwork. Janet made it four in the 59th minute with a low shot past Lillian. Akekoromowei was voted the Player of the Match thereafter.
