Carabao Cup: Palace knock out Liverpool as Arsenal, Chelsea, City reach quarters

The 2025/2026 Carabao Cup quarter-final lineup has been confirmed, with several Premier League heavyweights advancing, but Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool at Anfield to secure a place in the last eight.

Palace, who eliminated last season’s runners-up, produced a stunning 3-0 victory thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s brace and a late strike from Yeremy Pino.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s decision to rest key players for the Carabao match backfired as a youthful Reds side struggled to cope.

Palace will now face Arsenal in the quarter finals after the Carabao Cup quarter final draw was made after Arsenal defeated Brighton 2-0 courtesy of goals from academy star Ethan Nwaneri and Bukayo Saka.

Eight-time winners Manchester City avoided an upset at Swansea, coming from behind to win 3-1.

Goncalo Franco’s early stunner gave the hosts a shock lead, but City responded through Jeremy Doku’s deflected strike before Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki sealed the comeback.

Pep Guardiola’s men will now host Brentford in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea also progressed after surviving a late scare at Molineux.

The Blues led 3-0 at halftime through Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Estevao Willian, but Wolves fought back to 3-2 before Jamie Gittens’ late volley sealed a 4-3 win.

Chelsea, who finished the game with 10 men after Liam Delap’s red card, will face League One side Cardiff City — the only non-Premier League team left in the competition.

Defending champions Newcastle United continued their strong run, defeating Tottenham 2-0 at St James’ Park with headers from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade.

Eddie Howe’s side will play Fulham next.
