Danilo cemented his place in South American football history on Saturday as Flamengo won their fourth Copa Libertadores title  at the Estadio Monumental U Marathon.
Flamengo secured the title by defeating rival Palmeiras 1-0. The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when Danilo rose superbly to meet a pinpoint Giorgian de Arrascaeta corner.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus player sent a powerful header beyond the Palmeiras goalkeeper.
Danilo perfectly timed leap and clinical finish proved enough to separate the two sides in a tense and fiercely contested final.
With the victory, Danilo further etched his name into the record books, becoming the first player to win two Copa Libertadores titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.
Palmeiras pushed desperately for an equaliser in the closing stages and nearly found one in the 88th minute, but Victor Roque squandered a golden opportunity, firing over from close range.
Flamengo almost doubled their advantage in stoppage time when Everton’s curling free-kick forced Carlos Miguel into a superb save, tipping the effort onto the post.
The triumph makes Flamengo the first Brazilian club to win four Copa Libertadores crowns, reinforcing their dominance on the continent.
It was also a memorable night for head coach Filipe LuÃs, who became the ninth person to win the competition both as a player and as a manager, having previously lifted the trophy with Flamengo in 2019 and 2022.
A cagey first half produced few chances, with neither side managing a shot on target.
The main moment of controversy came in the 30th minute when Erick Pulgar escaped a possible red card following a reckless challenge on Bruno Fuchs.
The result adds another compelling chapter to the modern Libertadores rivalry between Flamengo and Palmeiras, who last met in the 2021 final where Palmeiras emerged victorious.
This time, Flamengo claimed the upper hand, reaffirming their continental pedigree.
Flamengo’s night in Lima ended in jubilation as the Rio giants celebrated once again lifting South America’s most prestigious club trophy.
