David Alaba out of FIFA club World Cup due to injury

David Alaba is out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after he suffered a calf injury, Real Madrid confirms.

The veteran centre-back was expected to make a full recovery from a meniscus injury which has kept him out of Real Madrid’s three games at the tournament. This is setback for the defender who has been out for three months.

Xabi Alonso, coach of the side expected Alaba to recover quickly.

“David is taking a bit longer [to recover]. After the [meniscus] operation we need to be cautious and patient, so step by step, we’ll wait a bit longer,” said Alonso who is now left without the versatile defender.

Real Madrid are still without Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy who are recovering in the US and in Madrid.

“Ferland is still a long way from being on the pitch. Eduardo is taking great steps forward in his recovery, hopefully we’ll have him back. I don’t know in the next game, or if we go further,” said Alonso.

Real Madrid are also without Kylian Mbappe who is still out due to illness in whose absence Gonzalo Garcia has stepped in to score. Real Madrid are set to play Juventus in the round of 16 in Florida.
