D’Tigers of Nigeria was defeated by Senegal in the second quarter final match at the ongoing 2025 men’s Afrobasket championship in Luanda, Angola.
Nigeria edged the five-time champions side 24-23 in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Senegalese thumping D’Tigers to 30-18 points before the half break whistle was blown.
The third quarter was no difference as the Mohammed Abdurrahman’s boys failed to improve on their performance which saw them with a ten points deficit 13-23 to the Senegalese team.
The 2015 champion tried to get back into the game with a 20-15 points at the end of the fourth quarter which was not sufficient to see them triumph over their opponent.
The final score line stood at 91-75 in favour of Senegal.
Senegal played better individual game with her three top scorers Branon Badio scoring 32 points; Jean Boissy – 21 and Moustapha Diop – 14 whereas Ike Nwanu made 15 points for Nigeria; star boy Stan Okoye scored 14 while Caleb Agada and Martins Igbanu scored 12 points each.
In the earlier first quarter final game, Mali beat Ivory Coast 102-96. Mali won the 1st quarter 28-27; lost the 2nd quarter 14-27; won the 3rd quarter 29-15 but lost the 4th quarter 19-21.
It will be Senegal and Mali in the first semi final which will be played on August 23..
Angola, the eleven-time champions will face Cape Verde while Egypt will sweat it out with Cameroon in the third and fourth quarter finals respectively on Thursday.
