The D’Tigers lost their second group game 69-55 to Guinea in the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers on Saturday.Â
The encounter at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Rades in Tunisa was largely dominated by Guinea. The team hoped to bounce back to winning after their opening fixture 88 – 79 loss to Tunisia in overtime on Thursday.
The Guineans outplayed the Nigerians in the first quarter, winning by 22-16 and broadened their lead by going into the break with a 35-26 lead. Guinea won the third quarter too by 52-41 and wrapped it up in the final quarter with 69 points to D’Tigers’ 55.
This is the second win for Guinea after they beat Rwanda 82-70 in their opening game. Next for the Nigerians is a game against Rwanda on Sunday 30th December.
This is the first phase of the qualifiers. All the teams in the group will meet again in the second phase, after which the top three teams will progress to the final round of qualifiers.
Five teams from Africa will play at the 2027 FIFA Basketball World Cup in Qatar. The tournament will be held from 27 August to 12 September, 2027.
