Augustine Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Henry Nwosu and 15 others were among the individuals honoured by the Nigeria Olympians Association (NOA) at its 3rd National Convention on Thursday.
The convention recognized past Olympians and influential stakeholders who have contributed to sports development in Nigeria.
The event which was held at the Zeus Paradise Hotel in Mabushi, Abuja was part of the association’s three day national summit with the theme “The Labour of Our Heroes Past.”
Aside Eguavoen and Siasia, others recognized at the event include: Yusuf Alli, a long jumper in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, Armelia Edet (1972), Sprinter Samson Oyeledun (1980, 1984), boxers and 1972 medalist Isaac Ikuohria, handballer Mary Mkpolulu (1992) and weightlifter Cosmos Samson Idioh (1980).
The NOA honoured other key figures who have contributed to sports development in the country and they include the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale, veteran journalist and publisher of Sports Village Square, Kunle Solaja; and Larry Izamoje, Chairman of BRILA Communications PLC.
