Eguma not swayed by Enyimba’s Tico Select preseason victory

Eguma with the Tico Select trophy

Stanley Eguma, Enyimba’s manager, says his side is still work in progress despite their victory against Rangers in the Tico Select preseason final on Sunday.

The manager lifted his first silverware since his return to Aba with the Elephants. Pere Anderson’s 62nd minute strike handed the trophy to Enyimba after ten days of football. But Eguma is not swayed by a preseason victory.

“It’s good to win because it brings more success but this is still preseason. Our main goal here was to assess the players, especially the new ones and see how they blend with the team. We’re still work in progress,” said Eguma.

Enyimba beat Inter Aba 2-0 in the semifinal played in Aba on Saturday and arrived Enugu on Sunday for the final. Rangers came from a goal down to beat KMK Academy 3-1 to set up a clash with Enyimba in the final, a foretaste of the 2025/2026 season’s oriental derby.

A grateful Eguma said the competition has helped them look at areas the team needs to work on ahead of the new season.

“I must thank the management for allowing us to participate. This has helped us to build momentum, and we’ll definitely work on the areas that need improvement before the league starts,” he concluded.

The People’s Elephants will begin their NPFL journey in the new season with a trip to face newcowers, Barau FC in Kano.
