William Troost-Ekong, Super Eagles captain, has heaped praises on Dender EH young defender Benjamin Frederick for his stellar performance against Rwanda on Saturday.

Eric Chelle gave the youngster his debut home game for the Super Eagles in place of Ekong and the defender stepped in comfortably, forming a good partnership with Calvin Bassey.

Speaking to the media after the game, Ekong said that focus should not be on how he feels about not starting, but about Benjamin’s amazing game.

“I think the focus shouldn’t be on me or why I didn’t start. I want to say a big congratulations to Benjamin. I think he played an amazing game today

“To come in a game that is loaded with a lot of pressure, at his age in Uyo is not an easy thing. That is the real question that should be answered today and congratulations to him,” he said.

Benjamin is a product of Simoiben Football Academy and has represented Nigeria at the U20 level. He made his debut for the Super Eagles against Jamaica at the Unity Cup in May.
