Nigeria’s Flamingos have crashed out of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after a 4-0 loss to Italy in Salle, Morocco.
Bankole Olowookere kept faith with the team that beat Samoa with Echefu keeping her place in goal while Terlumu started from the right side of attack. The girls had an early chance in the third minute but failed to profit from Italy’s mistakes at the back.
Both teams had their moments of possession but it was the Flamingos who had more shots on target with Shakirat Moshood coming close and was denied by the Italian goalkeeper.
The Italians broke the deadlock with their first shot on target when Corpelli’s shot from outside the box beat Echefu in extra time of the first half.
In the second half, Flamingos thought they had equalized but after review, Terlumu’s goal was ruled out for Queen Joseph’s foul on the Italian goalkeeper.
Venturelli got the second goal for Italy in the 58 minute with a long range effort which beat Echefu while Robino’s 63rd minute freekick goal. Guidici scored the 4th goal in the 88th minute to seal a convincing victory for Italy.
The result means that the Flamingos crash out at the round of 16 at the U17 Women’s World Cup and will now attempt to qualify again for next year’s tournament in same country, Morocco.
