Nigeria’s Flying Eagles wrapped up their preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup Chile 2025 with a morale-boosting 3–1 victory over Australia in a closed-door friendly on Tuesday.
The Aliyu Zubair-led side produced a disciplined display, showing clinical finishing and tactical maturity.
Tahir Maigana opened the scoring early in the game, giving Nigeria the perfect start.
Achihi Oseer doubled the lead with a composed finish, before Charles Agada sealed the win with a well-taken third goal.
Australia managed to pull one back, but it was little more than consolation as the Flying Eagles controlled the majority of proceedings.
The result comes just days after Nigeria’s 1–1 draw against tournament hosts Chile in Rancagua on Saturday.
The improved performance against Australia highlighted the team’s growing chemistry and resilience.
With two encouraging results in their final warm-up matches, confidence is steadily rising in the Flying Eagles’ camp.
Coach Aliyu Zubair expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress, stressing that the players are focused on achieving something special.
“The boys are improving with every game. Our target is to go further than Nigeria has ever gone at this tournament, and I believe this group has what it takes,” he said.
Nigeria will compete in Group F alongside Norway, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia.
The Flying Eagles begin their campaign against Norway on Monday, September 29, before facing Saudi Arabia on October 2.
Their final group game will be against Colombia on October 5 in what promises to be a decisive fixture.
With sharp attacking options, defensive solidity, and a renewed sense of purpose, the Flying Eagles look well prepared to make a strong statement when the tournament kicks off.
