Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi state, has rewarded Abakaliki FC for their performance in the just concluded President Federation Cup.
The team was hosted to a modest reception at the Governor’s Office in Abakaliki on Monday. Nwifuru praised the team for their performance noting that they made the state and the government proud. He therefore announced that each player of the team will get one million naira as reward.
The coach of the side, Ifeanyi Onyedika and his technical crew will also get one million naira each while the non-technical members of staff will get five hundred thousand naira each.
The club’s supporters club will get four million naira while the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), will get one million naira. The Governor also assured that players of Abakaliki FC will get their salaries promptly and will also get a one-month recess.
Abakaliki FC lost 4-3 on penalties to Kwara United in the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday and a win would have seen them possibly playing in the CAF Confederation Cup from the Nationwide League One (NLO), after they were relegated from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
