The 8th edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics has ended in Lagos on Saturday with Indonesia dominating on the podium.
The Indoor Sports Hall came alive as the final day witnessed a large turnout of fans. The day began with Indonesia’s Prasetyo and Munggaren beating India’s Ravat and Maneesha in straight sets (21-15, 21-17) to be crowned champions in the mixed doubles category.
In the men’s doubles, Japan’s M. Koga fell to Indonesia’s P. Shujiwo in straight sets (21-15, 21-17). With the victory, Shujiwo boosted his world ranking from his current no. 63 position.
Nigeria won the bronze medal in the women’s doubles. The women’s singles witnessed an all-Indian final with defending champion Lele beating Kashyap in straight sets (21-15, 21-17) to retain her title and become a back-to-back champion of the tournament.
Indonesia clinched 3 gold medals (men’s singles, mixed doubles and women’s doubles) while India won the women’s singles. Russia finished with gold in the men’s doubles. The total prize money of $17,500 was shared among podium finishers at the Lagos International Badminton Classics.
