Isak, Newcastle crisis deepens as both parties release statements on social media

The transfer crisis involving Alexander Isak and Newcastle has taken a new twist and both parties have taken to social media to tell their own side of the story.

Tension between Isak and his club continues to rise as the club continues to block his desired move to Liverpool.

On Tuesday, the player was included in the PFA best eleven of the season but he declined attending, citing his tussle with Newcastle. He posted on his social media pages.

“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken,” he started.

“That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself,” he said.

Newcastle United rejected a £110m bid for Isak from Liverpool, saying he is still needed at the club. However, the striker has refused to resume training with his teammates and was not in the squad for the club’s first game of the season.

Newcastle released a press statement, restating that Isak is still under contract with the club and that no official commitment has been made by the club as against what Isak claims.

The club said that Isak is still part of their plans, hence the club will have to look out for its own interests first in the matter. Newcastle said that the conditions for his sale has not been met and they do not see these conditions being met.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates,” the club said, as they hope to welcome the striker back to training.

Newcastle might be holding on to Isak due to the departure of Callum Wilson and the situation with a possible Yoane Wissa transfer which is yet to happen as Brentford are asking for £40m.
