Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team head coach, Bankole Olowookere, has reacted to his girls’ 4-1 opening day loss to Canada at the FIFA U17 Women Cup, Morrocco 2025.
Olowookere described the Flamingos’ 4-1 loss as a tough learning experience for his young side.
Reacting after the game, Olowookere admitted that individual mistakes and missed chances cost his team the result despite a promising first-half performance.
“You know, this is a huge game, and sometimes mistakes happen. We gave away two easy goals and didn’t take our chances when they came,” he said.
Coach Olowookere, however, maintained optimism, insisting that the team would learn from the setback against Canada and come back stronger in their remaining group games.
“It’s a lesson for the girls. We’ll go back, correct our mistakes, and prepare better for the next matches,”
Olowookere added. “We still have two games to play, and we’ll do everything possible—tactically and mentally—to get the wins we need to stay in the tournament.”
Nigeria is currently occupied the fourth position in their group after France defeated Samoa 4-2 on Sunday.
The Flamingos will look to bounce back when they face France in their next group-stage as they aim to revive their campaign in Morocco.
