The 2025 National Division One Handball League began in Umuahia on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Kwara, Funad Academy, Edo Dynamos were among the winners on the day. The tournament includes the men’s and women’s teams in the division.
Kwara defeated Mindscope Academy 31-28 in the women’s Group A opener while Funad Academy best Abia Valiants 27-22 and Edo Dynamos beat Pyramids 23-19 in Group B. Soof Handball overcame Girl Child Academy 41-23.
In the men’s category, Suleja Shooters beat Bayelsa United 19-18 in a Group A battle while Mindscope Academy lost 14-22 to Kwara. In Group B, Vipers of Jos were too strong for Kutus Academy with a 27-18 victory after going ahead 14-5 in the first half. U&H Abia beat Bendel Dynamos 26-20 to draw a thrilling climax to the opening day of the league.
