French club, Nice, has condemned the action by a group of fans who physically confronted their players after Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Lorient.Â
Nigerian striker, Terrem Moffi, Jeremie Boga and Florian Maurice, the club’s sporting director, were targeted by a group about 400 fans as the team bus arrived for training.
The fans attacked the trio, which prompted the club to give Ivorian forward Boga and Moffi a medical leave since Monday. The club said that though they understood the frustration of the fans, it was not a reason to assault any player.
“The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor performances and performances far removed from its values.
“However, the incidents that occurred during this gathering are unacceptable. Several club members were targeted. OGC Nice offers them its full support and condemns these acts in the strongest possible terms,” Nice said in a statement.
The incident on Sunday lasted for about 45 minutes until coach, Franck Haise engaged the fans and one supporter boarded the bus to talk about the incident.
