Nigeria’s Para-Powerlifting contingent departed the country for Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday October 7 for the 11th World Para Powerlifting championship.
The Championship in Egypt is the first-ever Para-Powerlifting world championship to be held in Africa.
The first batch of the team left Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon. The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart on Wednesday, October 8 from Lagos, completing the full team which will represent Nigeria at the championship.
In a short valedictory ceremony, officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) expressed confidence in the team and their readiness to participate and bring home medals.
Nigeria are heavyweights in Para Powerlifting and have won medals at the Paralympics and other international events.
