The Nigeria beach volleyball team which won gold at the Africa Youth Games have left Luanda for Nigeria.Â
The team faced threats of being stripped off their medals after their victory because an unnamed team from the tournament protested the win, alleging that Nigeria fielded overaged players.
An investigative body was formed to verify the claims, compelling the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) to submit all relevant documents to the competition organisers.
The NOC however challenged the investigation, noting the absence of a formal protest by the opponents challenging team Nigeria.
The NOC noted that standard procedure requires a formal complaint to be filed, after which both the accused and the accusers are subjected to medical tests. In this case, only Nigeria were targeted for testing without a formal complaint on record.
