Nigeria’s men’s and women’s flag football team to compete at 2026 World Championships

Nigeria will field the men’s and women’s team at the International Football of American Football (IFAF) Flag Football World Championships in Germany.

 

According to the Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA), this announcement marks a pivotal moment in the global rise of the sport’s popularity which will make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028.

 

“This marks a historic step forward for our sport, our athletes, and our nation. As the spotlight shines on Dusseldorf next year, Nigeria’s flag football teams will be there, fueled by passion and determination to represent our country with pride,” said NAFA.

 

The body also thanked the National Sports Commission for their support, NFL Africa, NFL Flag, and Browns Nigeria, noting that their contributions towards the growth of the sport in Nigeria has been instrumental in the journey which sees them qualify to be at the world championship.

 

The city of Dusseldorf will come alive from August 13th to 16th, 2026 as they host the IFAF Flag Football World Championships.
