Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke has vowed to return Heartland FC to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Speaking exclusively to sportresonance, Heartland FC coach, Amuneke said his mission is to rebuild Heartland’s identity, strengthen team spirit, and return the club to top-flight competition.

“We recognize our current position and accept the challenge ahead. What matters is that we stay focused and committed to our rebuilding journey,” Amuneke said confidently.

The former Barcelona forward revealed that his team has been training intensively since June to ensure full readiness for the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

He stressed that teamwork and consistency remain crucial, noting that progress must come through unity, discipline, and shared determination within the entire squad.

“We understand that success takes time and effort. We’re not expecting an easy road, but our process will bring the desired results,” he added.

When asked about any promotion targets set by the club, Amuneke clarified that he prioritizes steady progress and lasting development over short-term mandates.

“We are not working under pressure or fixed mandates. We aim to build systematically, focusing on stability, growth, and collective achievements,” the coach stated.

On player recruitment, Amuneke emphasized that Heartland seeks hardworking, hungry players ready to grow and contribute—not necessarily big-name signings.

“We are not chasing famous players. We are assembling committed footballers who believe in teamwork, discipline, and consistent improvement,” he explained firmly.

Addressing welfare concerns, Amuneke assured that player motivation and focus remain intact, with preparations ongoing despite minor logistical challenges.

Heartland FC will miss the NNL opening weekend slated for this weekend but are expected to begin their campaign next week as preparations near completion.

The team will continue its preparation for the season with another match today against Calabar Rivers, the Dan Anyam Cup, a Novelty to celebrate life and times of Dan Anyam.
