Barau FC attacking midfielder, Nana Kwame Abraham, has debunked viral reports claiming he had his throat slit following his team’s NPFL Matchday 12 clash against Katsina United, describing the story as completely false and misleading.
The encounter, which ended 1–1 in Katsina, was marred by post-match violence as some home fans turned unruly after the final whistle.
Speaking to journalists, the Ghanaian midfielder clarified what transpired during the chaotic scenes, revealing that he only sustained a minor injury after being struck by a flying object from the stands.
“My name is Nana Kwame Abraham. I’m an attacking midfielder for Barau FC,” he began.
“During the match, we were losing before we equalized. While we were celebrating the goal, some fans started throwing objects onto the pitch. One of those objects hit me, and I started bleeding.
“The doctors rushed in and tried to take me to the ambulance, but as we were leaving the pitch, stones started flying again, and the doctors had to run for safety.”
Abraham assured fans and well-wishers that he is recovering well and expects to return to training soon.
“With the help of our team doctors, I’m feeling much better now. Hopefully, I’ll resume training by Wednesday,” he said.
The midfielder also appealed to journalists and social media users to always verify information before publication to avoid unnecessary panic and misinformation.
“There’s nothing like my throat being slit — that’s false,” he stressed. “I was only hit by an object. I’m begging everyone not to spread false news. Please verify before posting or sharing.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Katsina United, ordering them to play home games away from Katsina and imposing a ₦9 million fine for various offences committed during the incident.
