Plateau United earned their second win of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season after edging El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0 in a Matchday Six clash at the New Jos Stadium on Saturday.
Midfielder Monday Gideon was the match-winner, struck in the 32nd minute of an open and entertaining encounter.
His effort ensured the Jos side continue their steady recovery after a disappointing start to the campaign, where they failed to score or pick up a point in their opening three fixtures.
With two victories in their last two games, Plateau United have now climbed to 13th position on the NPFL standings with six points from five matches.
In Saturday’s other fixture, Bendel Insurance were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayelsa United in Benin City.
Insurance took the lead through Kayode Oke, who converted a penalty just before halftime.
However, Bayelsa United responded quickly after the break, with Jawad Mustapha netting the equaliser in the 50th minute.
The result halted Bayelsa’s run of defeats, moving them into 10th position with seven points, while Insurance dropped to 14th with six points.
Though both sides will be keeping an eye on Sunday’s fixtures that could reshuffle the table.
The spotlight on Sunday falls on Lagos, where league leaders Enyimba will face Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m with the People’s Elephant seeking to extend their unbeaten run.
Other fixtures include Warri Wolves hosting Shooting Stars SC in Ozoro at 4:00 p.m., Wikki Tourists battling Enugu Rangers, Kun Khalifat facing Barau FC in Aba in a newcomers’ duel, and Nasarawa United welcoming Katsina United in Lafia.
