NPFL Round-up: Violence erupts in Kano as Nasarawa United stay top

Matchday 8 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) delivered a blend of drama, goals, and controversy — highlighted by violence in Kano and a weather-induced postponement in Port Harcourt.

In Kano, tempers flared after Kano Pillars were held to a 1–1 draw by Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC). Adams Mustapha’s stoppage-time equalizer salvaged a point for the home side.

However, chaos erupted moments later as fans and players allegedly attacked match officials and some 3SC players over perceived poor officiating.

The NPFL management is expected to open a formal investigation into the incident.

Elsewhere, Nasarawa United maintained their fine form to remain top of the NPFL standings following a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Rangers International in Lafia.

Wisdom Ebirim gave Rangers an early lead, but Anas Yusuf converted a 32nd-minute penalty before John Joshua sealed the comeback win in the 62nd minute.

In Umuahia, a first-half brace from Casmir Azubuike secured a comfortable 2–0 win for Abia Warriors over El-Kanemi Warriors.

Ikorodu City continued their steady start with a narrow 1–0 win against Bendel Insurance, thanks to Folarin Temitope’s early strike.

Plateau United overcame Barau FC 2–0 with second-half goals from Amietimi Enewarikpemi and Vincent Temitope, while Wolves and Tornadoes shared the points in a 1–1 draw. The same scoreline was recorded in Bauchi as Wikki Tourists held Kwara United.

In Katsina, the home side turned on the style with a dominant 3–1 win over Remo Stars, while the clash between Rivers United and Bayelsa United was postponed to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, due to heavy rainfall in Port Harcourt.
