The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a formal notice to Ikorodu City FC after Plateau United filed a detailed petition alleging multiple breaches of league regulations before, during, and after their Matchday 13 clash in Lagos last Sunday.
According to the petition, Plateau United accused Ikorodu City of disrupting their scheduled pre-match training session at the match venue, a move they described as a deliberate attempt to unsettle the away team.
They further alleged that Ikorodu City failed to comply with directives issued by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), which had earlier intervened to ensure both clubs adhered to matchday protocols.
The petition also highlighted several serious claims involving harassment, intimidation, and physical assault allegedly targeted at Plateau United players and officials within the stadium premises.
Plateau United stated that these incidents created a hostile environment that compromised the safety and wellbeing of their contingent.
Additionally, the club accused Ikorodu City of failing to provide adequate security as required under the NPFL Framework and Rules.
The lack of proper security personnel, they argued, contributed to the alleged misconduct and further escalated tensions around the fixture.
Plateau United also claimed that some of the actions were allegedly instigated or encouraged by senior officials of Ikorodu City FC, raising concerns about possible organisational complicity.
In response to the petition, the NPFL has directed Ikorodu City FC to provide a comprehensive written explanation addressing each allegation within 48 hours of receiving the official notification.
The league body emphasised that it views all allegations—particularly those involving violence, intimidation, and breaches of matchday operations—with utmost seriousness.
The NPFL added that appropriate sanctions will be applied if Ikorodu City are found guilty of any wrongdoing, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining discipline, fairness, and safety across all league venues.
The investigation is ongoing as stakeholders await Ikorodu City’s formal response.
