The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a stern reminder and warning to clubs on the prohibition of betting activities by players and club officials.

In a circular dispatched to the clubs on August 6, 2025 and addressed to the chairmen and general managers of the clubs, the league body reminded the clubs that according to the league’s rules and global best practices, officials and players, including anyone associated with the clubs cannot bet in football games in the league.

The league listed the dangers of betting by the major league actors to include potential match-fixing which would undermine the integrity of the league and erode trust among fans and sponsors and also damage the reputation of the competition.

For any official or player found culpable, the said individual or persons will be expelled from the league according to Article 15.5 section B of the NPFL framework and additional fines and suspension in accordance with section C of the framework.

The league urged players and officials to report any suspicious betting activity to the league through its designated email address and promised that such people will be protected and their identities kept confidential.
