The National Sports Commission has inaugurated its Electoral Committee for the forthcoming National Sports Federations Elections, with Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye as Chairman.
The newly inaugurated committee carries responsibility for conducting free, fair, credible, and transparent elections into 20 National Sports Federations across Nigeria.
These include Aquatics, Chess, Handball, Golf, Karate, Darts, Fives, Tennis, Wrestling, Wushu Kung Fu, Scrabble, Hockey, Boxing, Taekwondo, Badminton, Squash Rackets, Kickboxing, Rugby, Traditional Sports, and Deaf Sports.
NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, while inaugurating the committee, expressed confidence in their ability to deliver credible elections nationwide.
He said the Commission deliberately assembled a balanced, competent, and compact team to set new standards for federation elections with integrity.
Dikko emphasized the commission’s non-partisan interest, stressing that leadership was solely focused on professionalism, transparency, and building a sustainable sports economy.
He reiterated that both himself and the Director General were appointed by President Bola Tinubu to change the culture of sports administration.
According to him, the Commission would only provide guidance, while the elections remain fully under the responsibility of the Electoral Committee’s leadership.
Director General of NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, echoed confidence in the committee’s structure, describing it as resilient, deliberate, and meticulous.
He explained that the committee members were carefully chosen for integrity, competence, and ability to withstand electoral challenges of significant magnitude.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Ebhojiaye, pledged to bring extensive administrative experience and ensure credible, hitch-free, and transparent elections.
He assured Nigerians that the committee would follow established guidelines strictly and deliver results acceptable to the sporting community.
Other members include Vice Chairman Barrister Samson Ebomhe, Lawal Waheed, Hon. Tunde Popoola, Barrister Maryam Orotope Paul, Farouk Yelima, and Secretary Rita Mosindi.
