The Leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the 14 recognized constituencies are fully represented on the boards of all sports federations in Nigeria.
This assurance follows consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Federations elections.
The Commission emphasized that the democratic structure of sports administration in Nigeria is built on inclusivity, fairness, and transparency.
Therefore no constituency will be disenfranchised in the composition of federation boards.
According to the NSC, the 14 constituencies remain indispensable pillars for the growth and governance of Nigerian sports, and their voices must continue to be heard in decision-making at the highest levels.
The recognized constituencies are:
Six (6) Zonal Representatives from the country’s geopolitical zones
One (1) Athletes’ Representative
One (1) Technical Representative
One (1) Military/Paramilitary Representative
One (1) NAWIS Representative
One (1) NAPHER-SD Representative
One (1) Sponsor
One (1) AFFAN Representative
Speaking on the Commission’s position, the Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, stated:
“The strength of our sports federations lies in representation. We want to make it categorically clear that none of the 14 constituencies will be excluded from participating in the governance structure of any federation. Inclusiveness remains non-negotiable.”
The NSC also called on the Gymnastics, Judo, and Shooting Federations to prepare for their elections scheduled for October 18, 2025, in Abuja.
While Judo and Gymnastics will conduct their zonal elections before the national elections, the Shooting Federation will proceed to elect its President and Vice President, having already completed zonal polls.
