“A lot of work has gone into it, we are very optimistic and we’re going to host an amazing event,” Olopade said.
The DG outlined the importance of hosting the 3rd edition of the championship, saying it will improve on the nation’s infrastructure across the country and create wealth for small scale businesses.
“We’re gravitating towards hosting more international competitions within the framework of our country, rather than sending athletes out to compete.
“And the reasons why we are hosting this tournament is for capacity building, to create wealth for our indigent small scale businesses, and to improve on our infrastructure across the country.”
With over fifty countries and approximately nine hundred athletes set to take the center stage, Olopade also said the NSC will fully be in charge to organize and superintendent every aspect of the game.
The former Ogun state sport commissioner, also charged competing bodies like the AFN to pre-occupy themselves with producing new athletes that will ruffle feathers with the likes of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume.
”AFN is a competing federation and they should be preoccupied with producing new athletes that can beat the likes of Ofili, Tobi, Ese, and all,” he added.
”After agreeing all the terms of reference with the Confederation of African Athletics, one of them which is, the National body of sports, the NSC must organize and superintend the games and not AFN.”
LetGo, Bank of Industry (BOI) and Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) are all headline sponsors, with 7UP and MTN to join.
The championship will commence from July-16-20, 2025.
